Evan Ragland
- Born: Mar 31, 1656, Somerset, England
- Marriage: Susannah Pettus in 1680 in St Peter's Parrish, New Kent County, Virginia
- Died: May 30, 1717, St. Peter's Parrish, New Kent County, Virginia at age 61
In the information from Hazel Burns regarding Ragland genealogy, Evan was said to have been about 16 in 1670 and living in Somerset, England. It was at this time he was reportedly abducted as were about 2000 boys around his age and taken captive to be sold into servitude in America. Family lore tells that he was wondering along the water at Watchet Harbor when he was abducted. Ships would sail between the port of Bristol and America. After arriving in America, the boys would serve a period from 5 to 7 years. Evan was apparently with his future brother - in - law for this adventure in their lives.
No "proof" of parentage is known to me at this time (11/2003) but evidence presented by Stephen J. Ragland, Jr's historical books leads credence to the idea that Evan's parents were Thomas Ragland and Jane Morgan.
Evan married Susannah Pettus , daughter of Stephen Pettus and Unknown, in 1680 in St Peter's Parrish, New Kent County, Virginia. (Susannah Pettus was born in 1656 in St. Peter's Parrish, New Kent County, Virginia and died in 1717 in St. Peter's Parrish, New Kent County, Virginia.)
