Excerpt from "History of Charleston and Kanawha County, West Virginia and Rep. Citizens" by W.S. Laidley, 1911, p. 435-436.
"Colonel Wilson Lively was born 1802 and grew up on the farm, being trained to agriculture by his father (Cottrell). He became a prominent man, served several terms in the office as Sheriff, and later became colonel of a Virginia Regiment that formed a part of the Confederate Army. At the same time he served as a member of the state legislature. In the spring of 1865, while enroute to Richmond to attend to his duties as representative, he heard that the city had been evacuated by Lee and that it was in the possession of the Union Forces. This news proved so great a shock to him that it caused his death."
