Mary McGhee [2]

  General Notes:

There is much discussion about the maiden name of Mary as many have named her Mary Hill. We suspect confusion with Mark Lively's grandson, also Mark Lively and married to a Mary Hill (Mark Lively born January 11, 1766, son of Joseph).

Sources in the McGhee (McGehee) family believe Mary McGhee was the wife of Mark Lively. We agree. Once the naming patterns of Mark and Mary's descendants are examined, the McGhee connection becomes more evident.

Mary was the daughter of William McGehee, son of James William McGregor (William the Colonist) who came to Virginia around 1653 from Scotland. (McGehee GenForum messages #356/357/358).

Benjamin Lively, son of Mary and Mark, began paying taxes on the Buck Island Creek estate in 1782. The speculation is that Mary (mother) died just prior to that date, giving custody of the property to Benjamin.

Mary married Mark Lively [1] [MRIN: 2], son of Andrew Lyfolly [98] and Hester Lifolly [35005]. (Mark Lively [1] was born about 23 May 1679 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England, christened on 25 May 1679 in Burford Parish, England and died on 11 Jun 1752 in Buck Island Creek, Albemarle County, Virginia.)
