General Notes:
After growing up in Granville Co., NC he moved to the ninety - six district in SC and was married there. He lived in the upper Savannah River region of South Carolina and Georgia. In November, 1793, George became involved in an event which resulted in his rapid departure from South Carolina and Georgia. According to the 9th of November issue of the Augusta Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Augusta, Ga., George became involved in an argument on the street of Augusta with a John Draper and killed him. Arrested on the spot, he remained in jail until the 24th of December when he was released on bond. The trial was scheduled for March 1794 but George had "left the county for parts unknown". A warrant was issued for his arrest but no trial ever took place. He settled in Gallatin Co., IL near the Wabash and Little Wabash Rivers in the new settlement of Boone's Fort.
George married Anne Merritt [30487] [MRIN: 10204], daughter of Richard Merritt [30488] and Unknown, on 3 Oct 1783. (Anne Merritt [30487] died in 1845.)
