Possibly a seaman. Living in Marblehead, Mass. in 1774. He enlisted in the regiment of Col. John Glover. Formed into the 21st Massachusetts Regiment, they were charged with equipping and manning armed vessels to attack the British Naval supply ships in Massachusetts Bay during the seige of Boston. Stephen was later transfered to the 10th regiment where he was dicscharged as a private in March of 1776.
