James Spitzer Bowers [35575]
- Born: 25 Mar 1869, Randloph County, Missouri
- Marriage: Mary Logan Rutherford [35640]
General Notes:
James worked on the Goodnight Ranch and XIT Ranch in Texas, 1890-92 (abt.), herding cattle back and forth to Montana by way of Chicago and the Dakotas.
Married Mary sometime during the 90s, and bought a hardware store in Tisga, Texas. Sold the store after two years and moved to Roswell, where he had an interest in Blackwater Land and Cattle Company. Took charge of the company, but sold his 1,000 cattle and moved to Albuquerque in 1906.
The family bought a farm on land that stretched from the railroad to Rio Grande. The man they bought the place from was milking 12 cows, and James increased that number to more than 100. He was a dairy man for 42 years, then sold half his interest to Chester and Kenneth Henry (Merlin's stepsons), and the other half to Merlin. Merlin bought Chester and Kenneth's interests.
James married Mary Logan Rutherford [35640] [MRIN: 12073], daughter of Lilford Rutherford [35641] and Clementine Mershon [35642]. (Mary Logan Rutherford [35640] was born on 23 Jul 1872 and died on 12 Jul 1939.)
