Robert GWIN (or Gwinn), son of (Male) GWIN, was born about 1720 in Wales or Orange Co, Virginia and died after May 1785 in Augusta Co, Virginia. He settled on Calf Pasture River about 1744 and came from North Carolina. He bought 544 acres on both sides of river from James Patton and John Lewis. Had 9 kids. 3rd son was David. [Hugh S. July 17, 1745: James Patton & John Lewis of Beverley Manor of Augusta County, granted to Robert Gwin of the Calf Pastures of same county 544 acres on both sides of the Calf Pasture River in Augusta County, adj. John Preston, John Graham. Witnessed by David Kinkead, Rob't Bratton, and Loftus Pullin. [Augusta Deed Bk]

JUNE 18, 1746. James Hogshead, Thomas Black, William Wright, William Guy, Robert Gwin, Charles Hays, George Anderson, Adam Miller, James Robinson, Thomas McCulloch, appd. Constables last Court qualified.

1746 ...Feb 19th ....Constables: William Taylor from Benjamin Allens to the lower end of the county; William Gay on the Calf Pasture; Michael O'Dougherty in Woods Company; John McCown, Michael Finney, and Thomas Williams in the Forks of James. Samuel Dunlap, John Ramsay, and John Campbell succeed, respectively, Nathaniel McClure, William Gay, and Robert Gwin, Alexander McCroskey is also a constable.

MARCH, 1754: Kinkead vs. Lockridge.--William Kinkead, an infant under the age of 21 years, son and heir-at-law of Thomas Kinkaid, late of County of Augusta, by James Lockhart, his next friend. Bill filed May, 1753. Thomas Kinkaid, in 1747, removed from the Province of Pennsylvania with orator and Thomas's family. On 19th November, 1747, Thomas bought 263 acres joining John Preston, Robert Lockridge, Robert Gwin, in Augusta County. Thomas died in 1750 intestate, leaving a widow and ____ children, of whom orator is eldest. Bond of James Lockridge, of Augusta County, with Thomas Kinkead of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, dated 19th November, 1747. [Chalkley vol 1, p.310; Augusta COUNTY COURT JUDGEMENTS]

1762 May 18: Robert Guin Sener and wife of Augusta co to Robert Guin Juner, for "a piece of work done", 241 acres (part of the 544 acre tract granted to Robert Sr. by Patton & Lewis) on the Great Calfpasture. [Augusta deed bk 10, p.200-201]

1767: Robert Guinn on list of supernumeraries in Augusta County tax records. [Chalkley vol II, p.421]

1772 May 18: Robert Gwin of Augusta co sold (via a lease & release deed) to Thomas Kinkead, blacksmith, of the same place, 43 acres (part of the 544 acre tract granted to said Robert) on the Calfpasture river, adj. Wm. Kinkead and said Thomas Kinkead; witnessed by Thomas Hughart, James Hodge, John Carlile; signed Robert Gwynn his mark. [Augusta deed bk 18, p.441-442]

Robert Gewn (signed Gwinn) and William Forknor, executors, and uncles to
James Neal's orphans, are desirous that there should be an order to bind
Samuel Neal to Lanty Graham, and James to Robert Gewn. October, 1778.

Feb 15, 1780: Following allowed certificates for land for military services: John Kinkead, Thomas Hicklin, Robert Gwin, Lofftus Pullin, William Black, Patrick Miller, William Jackson, in Capt. Wm. There is a deed from Robert & Jane to James Fulton on 15 June 1784.
