bullet  General Notes:

Jordan Lively farmed in West Virginia near Summers/Monroe County line. In 1845 he paid taxes in Monroe County on 300 1/3 acres between Big and Little Stoney Creeks.

Jordan Lively owned the only legal still for the making of whiskey in his community. It was operated on a farm now owned by the E. C. Maddy heirs on Little Stony Creek. The still was mostly used before the Civil War when it was allowed by law to make grain and fruits into liquor for sale. Mr. Lively acquired a large estate and did his part as one pioneer clearing away the forest aiding in making future homes. He owned was was known as "War Ridge" which has always been noted for good crops of wheat. Mr. Lively became involved in debt and after his death the land was sold by decree of court.
