  General Notes:

James was an extensive land owner and slave holder, and resided in Amherst County, Virginia prior to 1775 up until his death in 1814. On September 14, 1791 he purchased 594 acres on the south branch of the Rutledge Creek, known as Old House Tract. His will was made on January 14, 1814 and probated on March 21, 1814 in Amherst County, Virginia. An inventory of his estate included, in addition to several tracts of land, a total of 22 slaves. His wife was given a life estate and five slaves named Manuel, Little, Peter, Nancy Fillies, and Rachel.

James married Jane Richerson [2735] [MRIN: 927] on 27 Apr 1776 in Amherst County, Virginia. (Jane Richerson [2735] was born on 20 Nov 1752 and died on 13 Feb 1833 in Amherst County, Virginia.)
