Hiram Young Lively bought land and resided in Wood County, Texas from 1852 to 1881. In 1881 he bought 150 acres east of Dallas. He was a farmer, a minister, and was becoming as Baptist minister in 1860. While in Wood County during the Civil War, he was a County Commissioner. By his last two wives he had no children.

One source reports Hiram Lively to be the son of George Matthews and wife Mary Fields and may have been adopted by Philip Stephen Lively.
