Dr. William Henry O'dowd Jr. [28608]

On June 1, 1886 Emma married Dr. William H. O'Dowd, who died at the young age of 36. Dr. O'Dowd was the son of William H. O'Dowd (b. 4 Jun 1818). Dr. O'Dowd and his parents are buried in the O'Dowd Family Cemetery at the intersectionb of Cooper Pond and Warner Roads at the edge of Salley, South Carolina. John O'Dowd (b. 8 Aug 1887) was the only child of the union of Emma and Dr. O'Dowd. He married Veva E. Wilson on 30 Nov 1912. They made their home and reared their family in Florence, South Carolina where he had a successful career as a businessman and owner of The Florence Daily News. John was four years old when his mother married George W. Brodie, and his half-brothers and sisters always looked on him as the older brother. (From A History of the Brodie Family 1754-1993).
