Family legend tells us that Elbert was abducted by Indians and his parents were killed. At a later time he found his way back to "relatives". We tend to dismiss this theory in favor of the parentage shown on this page which is consistent with other family legends about Elbert.
Elbert married Elizabeth Howarton [31139] [MRIN: 10437], daughter of Zachariah Howarton [31140] and Unknown, on 31 Aug 1854 in Red River County, Texas. (Elizabeth Howarton [31139] was born on 7 Feb 1825 in Tennessee, died on 25 May 1910 in Texas and was buried in Pitt Cemetery, Lampasas, Texas.)
