bullet  General Notes:

Celestine "Lester" Eugene Monnot and Tillie were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana, June 12, 1875. They lived there for 5 years. In 1881, they and their 3 children, Leona, Louis and Albert, moved by covered wagon to Ellis County, Kansas, between Abilene and Salina. Sand storms plagued them and drought eventually destroyed their crops. So, in 1894 they traveled in covered wagons to Sacred Heart, Oklahoma and started farming once again. By now there were eight children. The oldest boys helped clear the land in Pottawatomi, County. It was Indian Territory then. The first year was very hard. Wages were reported to be fifty cents per day.

Over the years they built a house, barns and other outbuildings. The children married, except the youngest twin girls. So, during November 1913 the family moved to Inglewood, California where Frank and Louis were already living. They bought a lot on Manchester Avenue in Inglewood and Louis built a house there for them. On January 27, 1925, Lester died from gall bladder complications. Tillie moved back to Oklahoma to be with her daughters until her death in 1946 from a heart condition.
