Served in the military from September 25, 1813 until September 25, 1818 in Captain Ferdinand L. Amelung's Company, 1st Regiment, Infantry. Received a land bounty of 160 acres (Bounty Warrant 12-160-WT 19662). 5 ft 11 inches, served in the Battle of New Orleans. Plantation owner in East Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the Baton Rouge Gazette, Berry Lively died as "a result of a fight with Ezekial Ferguson and friends of both; Ferguson also injured, event being investigated".
