General Notes:
From the Baton Rouge Gazette November 6, 1847
BRUTAL MURDER On Monday night last, an affrey occurred between Henry Lively and Samuel Watson, at the plantation of Mrs. Combs, about five miles from this place, which resulted in the murder of the latter in a most inhuman and fiendish manner.
Watson was at the time very much intoxicated, and had used some indecorous language to Mr. Sharp, a young man residing on the plantation, who turned him off the place and ordered him to go home, but as he did not immediately leave, he was assaulted by Lively with a loaded whip and beaten in such a manner to cause his death in a few hours. A warrant was issued on Thursday for the arrest of Lively, but too late for his apprehension. Watson had a large family and leaves a wife and four or five children to mourn his loss. It is hoped that the murderer may be speedily arrested and justice dealt to him in accordance with the magnitude of his crime.
Henry married Catherine Davis [3625] [MRIN: 1282] on 18 Sep 1844 in East Baton Rouge, Loiusiana.
