Obit reads; " George Treadway, aged 84 years, was killed Wednesday morning near his home at Beckwith when he fell from the running board of a car and suffered a broken neck and a fractured skull. Mr. Treadway had walked from his home to the store at Beckwith for some tobacco, and was picked up by a passing motorist on his way home. The car was loaded and he stood on the running board. As the car neared the top of the hill near the home of M.T. Wilson, his hat blew off and in attempting to catch it, lost his hold and fell to the pavement. He died about 30 minutes after the accident without regaining consciousness.
Mr. Treadway was born on Lower Loup Creek in 1845, and was a son of John Allen and Polly Bays Treadway, pioneer Fayette settlers. He spent the greater part of his life in Raleigh County, having lived at Prosperity for a number of years. He moved to the Beckwith community about three years ago and had since resided there.
He was married in 1863 to Miss Aletha Stover of Raleigh County. To this union 14 children were born, eight of whom survive, four son, William and Charlie, of Pax: Henry of Skelton, and Aden of Beckley, and four daughters, Mrs. Ruhama Treadway of Beckwith; Mrs. Susie Settle of Pax; Mrs. Dennis Blake, of Prosperity and Mrs. Claude Arthur of Oswald. In addition he is survived by a number of grandchildren.
The body was taken in charge by Tyree and Sevy, Oak Hill undertakers and Internment will be made at Prosperity, the time not yet announced."
George married Alethia Stover [5083] [MRIN: 1764], daughter of John Stover [5075] and Eliza Williams [5047], in 1863. (Alethia Stover [5083] was born on 10 Jul 1852 and died on 12 Jan 1920.)
