Supplemental Birth Cert. file 9-30-1954 entering name of Conrad as first name. 2. -Name of Birth Certificate of daughter, Joan, was listed as Conrad Carl Rasmussen. 3. -Application for Social Security number shows name as Carl Conrad Rasmussen. (March 1937) 4. -Records from Ellis Island show that Conrad returned from Denmark with Mother and sister, Maryen, on May 14, 1913 after leaving the US in 1912. They indicate they are returning to Oakland California to be with Conrad's father, Carl. This confirms stories from family that as young child, Conrad traveled to Denmark and back with family. 5. -During research, information shows name used by parents was both Conrad and Carl. When his older brother was born and given the name Carl, Conrad became the name used. 6. -Notes from second wife, Phyllis, regarding Conrad: Attended Piedmont Avenue Grammar school. This school was a wooden structure that burned down in the mid 1930''s. He attended Oakland Technical High School. He didn't graduate, apparently cut too many classes. Conrad was always involved in sports. He played basketball at Plymouth Church in Oakland. The same church that Phyllis and her sister use to attend. This building is now gone. He caddied at Claremont Country Club where he developed his love for golf.
In 1912, Conrad Rasmussen journeyed to Denmark with his mother and sister. He was about four years of age. The purpose of the trip, apparently, was to visit relatives. The return trip was aboard the Scandinavian American Line, United States - a 515 foot passenger vessel built in 1903. The families return, ironically, was through Ellis Island, having to prove they were already U. S. Citizens.
Conrad Rasmussen worked, for a time, in the Weaverville, California gold mines. Later, he became a plastering contractor and was a major sub-contractor on the Frank Lloyd Wright Marin County Center Building and the Pacific Gas and Electric building in San Francisco. (C & R Plastering, Oakland, California).
