Mary Kaulaloa Bailey [9238]

  General Notes:

Mary Bailey was born, raised, lived and died in Wailuku, Maui. She attended Mills College in Oakland, California but settled on Vineyard Street in Wailuku for the remainder of her days. She had a total of ten children and she was of the Protestant faith.

Her first husband was Mr. Joseph Wilson with whom she had two sons. Walter Garcia told me that Mary and her sister went to Mills College in Oakland, California and on the way home to Hawaii they met their future husbands. Her sister, Ella, married Mr. Rhodes. I believe the only Rhodes relations I have met were Hilola and her daughter Arnelle. According to Antionette Cook Peris, as of August 2000, Arnette is living in Honolulu.

I contacted Mills College in the late 1990's to research historical records but was unable to locate and record of her, most likely because I was unable to give them the specific years of attendance.

Cousin Adrian Desmond told me that grandma Bal was a baseball enthusiast. He remembered her cheering the players and giving them a few thoughts on their bad play. The Maui News shows that her husband, William E. Bal was elected president of the Maui Jr. Baseball League in 1914. Obviously he too was a baseball fan.

Mary Bailey is buried in the Old Wailuku/Iao Cemetery at the top of Vineyard St. in Wailuku, Maui.

Mary next married William Eugene Bal [14447] [MRIN: 4809]. (William Eugene Bal [14447] was born in 1864 and died in 1945.)
