17. August 30, 1837 Martinsburg Gazette reports the death of Henry Bowers.

18. September 11, 1837 Berkeley County Will Book 12 pg 289: Henry Bowers Will. Henry Bowers Jr. purchased two tracts of land lying near the North Mountain for 11,500 from Henry Bishop and Catherine September 23, 1805. These two tracts had been conveyed to Henry Bishop Sr. by John Hays. The first tract contained 191 acres adjoining John Lyle, William Hayes and James Hayes. The second tract contained 122 acres. Henry Bowers Jr. left a will. It said to make sale of all landed real estate two years after the death of widow Elizabeth, then the land is to be sold and the money equally divided among the children. One third to wife Elizabeth, to granddaughter Harriet Couchman, wife of Michael $100.00. Negro boy Jerry is to be set free from slavery at the end of 1840 but not until wife dies. Appointed sons Henry, William and Adam Bowers executors.

On the tract described in item 11 above, Henry Bowers built his home; a two story sandstone structure that is still providing a home shelter today.
