Standards and Practices

For any and all who have an interest in the production and processes of genealogy at Lively Roots, the following represents the standards by which we operate and publish:

Lively Roots strives to publish a coherent and truthful genealogy to the user public which is as accurate as possible recognizing that “proof” depends on the circumstances of the time and place, where and when the person lived, and that any single document is not always “proof”, and lastly, family legends usually contain an element of truth.

Lively Roots strives to present research results and opinions in a clear, well-organized manner and refrains from withholding, suppressing or knowingly misquoting a source while respecting the privacy of the source if requested.

Lively Roots promotes free and accurate genealogy on the internet remembering that a family history belongs to the family.

Lively Roots respects the copyrights held by others and obtains permission, when required, and awards credit to the owner of any material used or published.

Lively Roots will not cite sources that are private such as: family bibles, private letters, family stories, and similar sources.  Contacts from the user public can, and have been overwhelming to some sources.

When Lively Roots publishes speculative genealogy, it is labeled as such.  A good guess on the internet can inspire a knowledgeable source to make contact and make the correction.

Requests for research or documentation other than what is available in these website pages cannot be accommodated.  The staff at Lively Roots is engaged inconstant research to maintain, clarify and add to the volumes presented herein and time does not permit departures from ongoing research.

Caution is advised about assumptions of accuracy concerning any item in this website.  Documents have been known to be erroneous, family sources have been known to have faulty recollections, and sources have not always operated at the highest standards of caution and critical analysis.  Also, you will find the occasional and inevitable typo.

The information published by Lively Roots is believed to be accurate.  Should you see an error, contact us – and be prepared to cite a credible source.

In accordance with existing law, an item in the public record is publishable.  However, Lively Roots, as a matter of policy, does not publish the addresses of the living, unless requested to do so (usually a business), and never publishes driver’s license or a social security number, nor will we distribute telephone numbers.

Items of possible embarrassment to a family will be omitted unless it is of historical significance and the person is no longer living.  We will not participate in family disputes. (It has happened).
